Newark Teens Charged With 5-Gas Station Robbery Spree In Essex County

The Essex County teens allegedly robbed gas stations in Newark, Belleville and Orange, police say.

NEWARK, NJ — Police have charged a pair of Essex County teens in connection with a robbery spree that took place at five gas stations in Newark, Belleville and Orange, authorities say.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, police have charged Khalyl Harley, 18, and a 17-year old male juvenile, both of Newark, with participating in a series of robberies that took place on Feb. 13.

The Newark robberies occurred at the Conoco Gas Station at 786 Sanford Avenue, Delta Gas Station at 900 Mt. Prospect Avenue and Millennium Gas Station at 864 Mt. Prospect Avenue, police stated.

The Belleville robbery took place at the gas station on Franklin Street and Belmont Avenue, according to authorities.

Police said that the suspects wore masks and dark clothing during the robberies, and drove a silver Lexus with damage to the rear bumper and a Florida license plate.

Newark detectives have determined that Harley and the male juvenile are suspects in all five robberies, authorities stated.

Harley and the male juvenile were arrested on Tuesday in Newark’s Central Ward.

The arrest was assisted with help from the New Jersey State Police and Belleville Police Department, who arrested the suspect in a stolen car, authorities said.

“We continue to make progress in this investigation and towards identifying accomplices,” Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said. “We expect to close this investigation in the near future.”
