NJIT Employee, Metuchen Man Killed While Walking To Work: Prosecutor

Authorities are investigating a crash that killed a New Jersey Institute of Technology employee.

Newark, NJ – Authorities are investigating a fatal car crash that killed a New Jersey Institute of Technology employee who was walking to work on Thursday.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, female driving a Nissan Altima struck Richard Sweeney, 70, of Metuchen, as he was crossing the street in the vicinity of Central Avenue and Lock Street around 7:45 a.m.

Sweeney was pronounced dead at University Hospital a 10:45 a.m., prosecutors said.

No charges have been filed against the driver, who remained at the scene, prosecutors stated.
