PSEG Asks NJ Regulators To Approve $306M For Clean Energy

One of the largest power companies in the nation wants to invest another big chunk of money into its "clean energy" program in New Jersey.

NEWARK, NJ — One of the largest power companies in the nation is hoping to invest another large chunk of money into its ongoing “clean energy” efforts in New Jersey.

On Thursday, PSE&G – which has a headquarters in Newark – announced that it has submitted a proposal for a six-month extension of its Clean Energy Future program to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU).

The $1 billion program was approved by the NJBPU in September 2020. It includes several initiatives that aim to help PSE&G to shift into the clean energy market, such as improving energy efficiency in homes and businesses, upgrading to “smart meters,” and beefing up the state’s electric vehicle infrastructure.

The NJBPU approved a $280 million, nine-month extension of the program in May. Now, PSE&G is seeking another extension – this time for six months and $306 million.

PSE&G said it plans to follow up its latest extension request with a separate proposal for an expanded, 2.5-year version of the program, which would introduce new initiatives such as “building decarbonization and demand response measures.”
