Sen. Bob Menendez Moves His Office From Newark To Jersey City
Menendez is saying goodbye to Newark, but Cory Booker will remain. It will give more NJ residents access to a US senator's office, he said.
NEWARK, NJ — U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez opened a new office in Jersey City on Monday, marking a move from his old stomping grounds at the Gateway Center in Newark.
While Menendez has moved out of the Brick City, his Senate colleague, Cory Booker, will keep his Newark office, which is in the same building. This way, more New Jersey residents can have access to a U.S. senator’s office, Menendez said.
It marks the first time in at least a half-century that a U.S. Senate office has been located in Hudson County, Menendez added.

The move to 210 Hudson Street represents a homecoming for Menendez, who was raised in Hudson County, attended Saint Peter’s College in Jersey City, and is a former Union City mayor and school board member. He later represented the county in the New Jersey General Assembly and state Senate, and was elected to Congress in 1992, serving a district that included parts of Hudson, Essex, Union and Middlesex counties.
Since being appointed to the U.S. Senate in 2006, Menendez had occupied the same office space in Newark’s Gateway Center as his predecessors, Sens. Jon Corzine and Frank Lautenberg.

“I’ll miss working in Newark, which I’ve had the privilege of representing for the last three decades, but with my friend, Senator Cory Booker, still having his office there and me moving to Jersey City, we’re going to give more New Jerseyans access to a U.S. Senate office than ever before,” Menendez said in a video message.
“Jersey City is a dynamic place, growing dramatically, a microcosm of our nation where different cultures come together and blend; it makes New Jersey so unique,” the senator added. “Working every day in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty is going to remind me of the promise of this nation — that everyone is welcome, everyone is equal, and in this place, everything is possible.”
