Summer Of Hell: PATH Riders, NJ Transit Buses Face Morning Delays

Plan B for the "Summer of Hell" didn't work out so well for commuters who took the PATH train or the bus into NYC on Tuesday morning.

We can’t fix Penn Station or update the subway’s signal systems. But we can give voice to your frustration, hold those in charge accountable and find creative ways to make commuting more pleasant. Plan B for the “Summer of Hell” didn’t work out so well for North Jersey commuters who took the PATH train or the bus into New York City on Tuesday morning.

As the second week of the dreaded “Summer of Hell” Amtrak repairs at New York Penn Station got underway, NJ Transit and Port Authority officials reported multiple delays on the PATH and for buses headed into the New York Port Authority Bus Terminal during the Tuesday morning rush hours.

The PATH system – which will cross-honor thousands of additional riders during the Summer of Hell – experienced delays on the JSQ-33 and NWK-WTC lines due to an “electrical problem” on Tuesday morning, Port Authority officials stated.

Normal PATH service on the affected lines resumed with en-route delays less than two hours later, officials reported, but not before the delays allegedly affected several commuters’ travel plans.

Meanwhile, NJ Transit temporarily cross-honored PATH tickets and passes at Newark Penn Station and New York Penn Station due to what the agency called “PATH cable problems.”

BUS DELAYS TO NYC: Tuesday, 7/18

Port Authority officials announced Tuesday morning that New Jersey-bound buses at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in NYC experienced delays due to a disabled vehicle in the Lincoln Tunnel, an issue that soon cleared but caused residual delays for departures at the facility.

NJ Transit stated Tuesday morning that bus service traveling to the terminal “may experience delays due to a disabled NJ Transit bus in the XBL lane.”
