Newark police arrested a teen from Elizabeth on Wednesday after he allegedly brought a gun aboard a bus, authorities say.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police arrested a teen from Elizabeth on Wednesday after he allegedly brought a gun aboard a bus, authorities say.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, officers from the 5th Precinct were conducting a community deployment team foot patrol in the area of Clinton Avenue and South 11th Street in Newark around 5 p.m. when a citizen alerted them that a youth was on a nearby bus with a gun.

The officers boarded the bus, located the weapon and arrested the juvenile, authorities said.

Police charged the 17-year-old male with unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
