This same week, the U.S. Justice Department revealed that in July of 2021 it launched five cross-jurisdictional strike forces. These "strike forces" had the goal of disrupting the sale of illegal guns trafficking in key regions across the country.

The strike forces identified five key market regions where they said the illegal gun trade is strong: New York/New Jersey, Chicago, Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area/Sacramento Region and Washington, D.C.

According to gun trace data, a significant number of illegal guns recovered in the New York/northern New Jersey area originate from outside the area. Many of the guns are smuggled up from Florida.

Anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area is asked to call Detective Keith Walcott of the New Brunswick Police Department at (732)745-5200 or Detective Paul Kelley of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732)745-3330.
