Board of Education Appoints New Member

Francesca Rodriguez is a graduate of the District Adult Learning Center.

The New Brunswick Board of Education has a new face to replace longtime board member Edwin Gutierrez.

Francesca Rodriguez, 27, was appointed by Mayor James Cahill to fill Gutierrez's seat after his term expired this month.

According to the district website, board member Edwin Spencer's term also expired in May of this month, but he appeared to have been reappointed to the board.

Spencer was elected the board's new president in the Wednesday night reorganization meeting, replacing Benito Ortiz.

Board member Patricia Sadowski was elected the board's new vice president. The seat was previously filled by Gutierrez.

Ortiz said the board plans to honor Gutierrez's services to the board at a later date.

Rodriguez said she had stayed involved with the school district beyond her graduation, and was approached by the mayor to consider a position on the board.

She resides in New Brunswick, and does not have children.
