Edison-Metuchen Dog Park Reopens This Saturday
Playground equipment for dogs has now been installed and a children's playground will be installed early this summer, too.

EDISON, NJ – Despite the pouring rain, the Edison-Metuchen dog park will reopen for the season this Saturday at 11 a.m., Edison Township announced Friday. The dog park has some new features this year, such as new playground equipment for dogs and four landscaped butterfly gardens. The dog park borders both communities of Edison and Metuchen. A children's playground will be installed early this summer, too.
“Our dual-community dog park represents a true public-private partnership,” said Edison Mayor Thomas Lankey. “Thanks to dog-lovers in our neighboring towns, to some dedicated volunteers and to supportive business leaders, we are re-opening our dog park with some terrific improvements.”
With grant money and a $2,500 contribution from the Perth Amboy-based Metro Centre Association of Realtors, the 4.3-acre dog park at 200 Whitman Ave. now features dog-friendly playground equipment and attractive butterfly gardens.

Freeholder Charles Tomaro has also secured a grant from the Middlesex County Open Space Trust Fund for a children’s playground to be installed in early summer.
“The new dog park equipment is a great example of municipalities and business working together to create a wonderful addition for residents of Metuchen and Edison,” said Metuchen Mayor Peter Cammarano.

Nicole Banbor, CEO of the Metro Centre Association of Realtors, said the community dog park is a “perk to many home buyers when searching for their next home."
"It makes the area more appealing to current and future residents who are dog owners," Banbor said. "Area Realtors are supportive of this project because it has revitalized this property and it makes the neighborhood a better place to live."
Mayor Lankey, Mayor Cammarano and Banbor are hosting an 11 a.m. event Saturday at the dog park to mark its reopening. Free hot dogs and refreshments will be on hand for those in attendance.
