The New Brunswick Free Public Library will host a variety of performances and children’s activities on Oct. 28 and 29 in celebration of the Mexican holiday, Day of the Dead /Día de los Muertos.
The holiday is a tradition in Mexican culture that honors and remembers loved ones who have died. People build altars adorned with offerings such as flowers, cut paper decorations, food, pictures, and candles in memory of their dead ones.
On Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. particpants can make traditional crafts – papel Picado (perforated paper) paper flowers with Mexican Arts Teacher Victor Cortez. The celebration will conclude with music and dance performances Aztec dances by Kalpulli Huehuetlatolli.
The festivities will close with Mexican appetizers and a Champurrado(a chocolate- based Mexican drink) tasting. All events will be held in the library’s Carl T. Valenti Community Room.
