Join us for the next meeting of the NJ Online News Resource Group for a discussion on shared services and consolidation. We are bringing in top-notch government experts to share their insight and advice to reporters and citizen journalists. We will be meeting in at the Rutgers Student Center, Room 402. Sign in at 6:30, program at 7pm.
Shared Services and Consolidation are buzz words in municipalities throughout New Jersey. As towns grapple with soaring costs and rising property taxes, elected officials must come up with more effective and innovative ways to provide quality services.
In Somerset and Camden counties officials are considering a county-wide police system and in Hunterdon they are proposing one school superintendent for all the districts.
Some towns are looking at consolidation as the answer -- Scotch Plains and Fanwood considering consolidation, Edison and Metuchen are staunchly opposed, and Princeton Borough and Princeton Township voters finally said "I Do" this November.
What factors need to be taken into consideration? How do our communities make the tough choices. Join us on March 5th to hear from the experts!
