Former Rutgers Football Player Eric LeGrand to Speak at Obamacare Information Session

The session takes place Wednesday night at Middlesex County College.

The former Rutgers football player who suffered a devastating spinal cord injury in 2010 and became the first player in the history of the program to have his number retired will appear at an information session about healthcare in Middlesex County Wednesday night, Nov. 20.

Eric LeGrand, of Woodbridge, is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at an information sessions regarding the Affordable Care Act at Middlesex County College, nj.com reports.

The session is aimed at college students and their families. The goal is to teach them how to shop for “Obamacare” health insurance, according to the report. Representatives from multiple groups, including Enroll America, Citizen Action of New Jersey and the Jewish Renaissance Medical Center, will be on hand to assist, according to the report.

LeGrand’s career was cut short as a junior on Oct. 16, 2010 when he suffered a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the neck down while playing special teams in a game against Army at MetLife Stadium.

He regained movement in his shoulders and began to feel sensation through his body in January 2011, but he's been confined to a wheelchair since his injury.

He’s written a book about his experiences, titled “Believe: The Victorious Story of Eric LeGrand.”

In September, he became the first player in the long history of Rutgers football to have his number retired, at halftime of the Eastern Michigan game.
