Hydrant Flushing Begins in New Brunswick Today

Discolored water is still okay to drink, officials said

New Brunswick will begin flushing out fire hydrants today, Sept. 25, lasting through the end of next month. The first areas to be flushed are Livingston Avenue and Joyce Kilmer Avenue, between 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m.

Residents might notice some discoloration in their tap water during this time. The water is safe to drink as is, but running your faucets for a few minutes will clear it up, officials said. The township advised against doing any laundry if your water is discolored.

Any questions can be directed towards New Brunswick Water Utility Director Mark Lavenberg at (732) 745-5052.
