Middlesex County Students Take Their Talents On The Road

A play, written by students at the East Brunswick campus of Middlesex County Vo-Tech, is scheduled for performances in New York City.

Theater, dance and digital film students in the Middlesex County Vocational and Technical Schools’ School of the Arts have been receiving recognition beyond their East Brunswick campus.

“The Education Project” was last spring’s production by theater students. But the demand for encores has kept the student‐written play on the boards. Since it was performed in May 2014, “The Education Project” has had additional performances in January for NJTV’s program “Classroom Close‐up NJ” and in February for a districtwide staff‐development day.

Now it is scheduled for five more performances beginning June 23 as part of the Planet Connections Theatre Festivity in New York City, billed as the nation’s first eco‐friendly arts festival.

East Brunswick Tech Principal Jeffrey Bicsko explained that the festival came to the attention of the school administration during the development of its green curriculum and subsequent application to be designated a Green Ribbon School. The MCVTS East Brunswick Campus was named a National Green Ribbon School in April by the Whitehouse Council on Environment Quality and the U.S. Department of Education.
