New Brunswick High Coaches Honored

Three men named "Coach of the Year" by the Greater Middlesex Conference.

Three New Brunswick High School coaches have been named Greater Middlesex Conference’s “Coach of the Year.”

Michael Mitchell (girls’ varsity tennis), Michael Shymanski (girls’ varsity soccer) and Rafael Castillo (boys’ varsity soccer) were all named “Coach of the Year” by the conference.

In addition to coaching varsity tennis, Mitchell, pictured first, is a McKinley Community School special education paraprofessional, and has been with the district for 17 years.

Shymanski, pictured next, is the girls’ varsity soccer coach, and also a Health and Physical education instructor at New Brunswick High.

Castillo, pictured third, is the coach for boys’ varsity soccer, which competes within the GMC White Division. Castillo has been with the district for seven years as a Play It Smart coach, providing personal and academic support for athletes.
