New Brunswick, Perth Amboy City Of Water Day Is This Saturday

Meet in Boyd Park Saturday for hands-on water quality monitoring demonstrations of the Raritan River, plus Raritan Bay sailing and kayaking:

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — The 15th annual City of Water Day returns to New York City, Brooklyn, Perth Amboy and New Brunswick this Saturday, July 16.

This is a day to raise awareness about current and future impacts of climate change and sea level rise, and to celebrate the waters that surround us. From boat rides to kayaking, from water quality monitoring to art projects, City of Water Day activities are free and open to all.

This Saturday in New Brunswick all are welcome to join the Lower Raritan Watershed Partnership in Boyd Park. Meet in Boyd Park from 1-3 p.m. Saturday.

The first 100 participants will receive free reusable bags, and the first 48 participants will receive copies of The Carbon Almanac (public release date 7.16.2022).

In Boyd Park, Rock Dance Collective will perform a choreographed demonstration of engagement with the newly installed #FRAME sculpture. The choreography and sculpture will work in concert to showcase the potential for new interactions between people, the built environment, and the natural landscape.

Additional in-person activities will include hands-on water quality monitoring demonstrations, discussion of water quality monitoring results and general outreach regarding climate change impacts to New Jersey’s river environments.

Perth Amboy free events Saturday:

Join the Perth Amboy Green Team on City of Water Day for chance to participate in sailing and kayaking rides provided by the Raritan Bay High School Sailing Foundation. In addition, residents will also get a chance to learn about climate change issues through learning experiences made possible by a partnership between the Green Team and community stakeholders. The event will take place at the waterfront area towards the end of 2nd street in Perth Amboy and will be open to all residents. "From the Bronx River to the Raritan River, from Jamaica Bay to the Hoboken and Passaic River waterfront, City of Water Day In Your Neighborhood programs will help people across the region celebrate their local waterways and learn about rising seas and other growing threats due to climate change.,” said Elizabeth Balladares, Community Stewardship Manager, NY-NJ Harbor & Estuary Program.

Jamaica Bay Festival in Jamaica, Queens

Also on Saturday will be the Jamaica Bay Festival in Jamaica, Queens, featuring family-friendly activities including fishing, sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, nature walks and games. To begin the Festival, the Black Surfing Association will lead a kayak parade; later in the day, the adventurous can join a National Park Ranger to paddle from Canarsie Pier to Shirley Chisholm State Park.
