New Brunswick Water Was Not Properly Treated On 11 Days, Notice Says
New Brunswick water was not properly treated on ten days in December and one day in January, according to a notice from the city.

New Brunswick water was not properly treated on ten days in December and one day in January, according to a notice posted on the city’s website.
When local water utility personnel realized there was a problem, it was immediately reported to the state Department of Environmental Protection, the notice said.
The issue has been resolved, but the notice was sent to customers to let them know that there had been a problem:

“Among the minimum treatment techniques required as part of the disinfection process for drinking water is proper chlorine contact time. The New Brunswick Water Utility, under the supervision of American Water Operations and Maintenance, Inc., failed to allow for proper contact time on December 6, 7, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 21, 26, 31 and January 3, 2015.”
According to the notice, the contact time values on those dates were “insufficient for the inactivation of Giardia Lamblia,” which is “a microscopic parasite that causes a diarrheal illness known as giardiasis.’’
