OLD BRIDGE, NJ — The man who dumped an estimated 500 pounds of spaghetti, macaroni and other noodles in a wooded area of Old Bridge last month will not have criminal charges filed against him.

This was reported by ABC 7 New York, which quoted Old Bridge officials and community advocates as saying the unidentified man has a history of mental illness.

As Patch previously reported, the man was moving out of his mother's house after she died and had nowhere to dump the large amounts of dried food she had stocked up on during the pandemic.

So he dumped the noodles in a wooded area near two streams by Hilliard Road. The pasta has since been cleaned up, but it was first brought to public attention by Nina Jochnowitz, an Old Bridge resident.

"A good estimate is more than 500 pounds of pasta dumped adjacent to the streams intersecting with Hilliard and Mimi," Jochnowitz wrote on her Facebook page April 26.

Keith Rost told NBC 4 the man is a military veteran. He said the pasta was uncooked when it was dumped by the creek, and that the heavy rains made it wet, making it appear like it had been cooked.
