More Police To Be Hired At Rutgers Under Federal Grant

New Brunswick, Perth Amboy and Rutgers campus police all received federal money to hire more police officers.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — The city of New Brunswick received a $250,000 grant to hire two police officers this October. The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) COPS.

Many other towns in the Sixth Congressional District received funding to either hire new police officers or provide officers additional training. The city of Perth Amboy will receive $1.25 million to hire a total of 10 new police officers.

Sayreville will receive $175,000 to enhance community policing practices through "trust and legitimacy building with the community," said Congressman Frank Pallone (D-NJ6), the Democrat who represents the Sixth District in Washington, D.C.
