Rutgers Day Returns on Saturday

Rutgers University will be alive and bustling on Saturday with the return of Rutgers Day, a community extravaganza featuring scads of activities, exhibitions and events that are all Rutgers-related.

Rutgers Day is held on the College Avenue, Busch and Cook/Douglass campuses, while the New Jersey Folk Festival will take place at the same time on Douglass Campus. Ag Field day will be held a short walking distance away on the Cook Campus field.

Rutgers Day will be held from 10 a.m to 4 p.m., while the NJ Folk Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All events will be held rain or shine. 

All campuses will host children's activities, crafts, information centers and booths hosted by student organizations. Check the Rutgers Day website for detailed information and event schedules for each campus.

Rutgers Day

Visitors can walk the College Avenue campus and see competitive ballroom dancing demonstrations, visit with many student organizations and watch a parade with the Rutgers Marching Band. A bevy of children's activities will be offered at the Voorhees Mall, including crafts and a puppet show. Additionally, the Rutgers Geology Museum and the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum will be open and offering free tours.

On Busch Campus, the exhibits focus mainly on science and research, with lots of hands-on activities for adults and kids. Some of the featured activities including ice-cream made using chemistry, robotics demonstrations, a flight simulator, Jujitsu and a live demonstration on how new sprinkler systems installed at Rutgers fight fires.

The Phenomenal Faraday Physics show will demonstrate the laws of physics through visually exciting experiments such as exploding hydrogen balloons, using a fire extinguisher to propel a person across a room, and a man lying on a bed of nails.

Over at Cook/Douglass, the Cook barns will be open to the public, allowing people to visit with piglets, horses, cows and seeing eye puppies. A touch tank will be open at the campus Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences, and the world's largest egg toss will take place near Passion Puddle.

Ag Field Day will feature a Farm Show, a 4-H dog show, and events showcasing the animals that live at the Cook barns.

Folk Festival

This year's New Jersey Folk Festival will have a special guest, as Elena Poptodorova, Ambassador of Bulgaria to the U.S. will be honored at 12:20 p.m. on the Festival's main stage.

Poptodorova will be accompanied by Bulgaria's New York-based consul-general, Radoslav Tochev.

Bulgaria is the featured country for this year's Folk Festival, and the country's music and culture will be celebrated throughout the day.

The Folk Festival will be held on the lawn of Woodlawn Mansion on Douglass Campus. It is free to attend.

Travel
Parking is available on every campus in all university lots, according to Rutgers. Rutgers buses will transport visitors around the different campuses and will stop in the downtown New Brunswick area.
