Rutgers Woman Almost Forced Into Car by Strange Men

New Brunswick, NJ - New Brunswick police are investigating an incident where a Rutgers woman said a man tried to force her into a car while she walked alone on the streets of New Brunswick late at night.

The incident happened at 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 5: The woman said she was walking alone near the intersection of Courtland and Duke streets when a small, light-colored SUV pulled up alongside her.

The driver asked for directions, and then one of the occupants called out for her to get into the vehicle. The woman said “no,” and that’s when a back-seat passenger got out of the car and tried to push her into the vehicle, police said.

Fortunately, two passersby intervened and started yelling at the perpetrators, who fled the area.

The woman was not physically injured. She is affiliated with Rutgers University, police said, but it is unknown if she is a student.

One of the perpetrators is described as a male, average build, having dark hair and a goatee, wearing a red and black fitted hat, black Northface style jacket and light colored jeans.

The New Brunswick Police Department is actively investigating this incident and asks that anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, contact the Detective Bureau at 732-745-5217.

Rutgers University police are also reminding students to avoid walking in isolated or dark areas, and walk in groups when traveling during late-night hours.
