School District to Host Parental Engagement Workshops

Complimentary dinner and childcare will be provided at the workshops.

The first of a series of parent workshops will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 22 at McKinley School, 15 Van Dyke Ave., addressing how to deal with children displaying challenging behavior.

The workshop is the first in a series of events aimed to benefit families in the New Brunswick public school district, offering information and guidance. Additionally, free dinner, childcare and raffles for gift cards will be held at each event.

The workshops are hosted by the school district and New Brunswick Bridge and feature professionals and advocates in each area of discussion.

The program will be presented in both English and Spanish.

  • 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. May 24 - "How to advocate for your child in the schools," presented by Behavior Therapy Associates at McKinley School, 15 Van Dyke Ave.
  • 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. May 29, "How to work with your child's challenging behavior," presented by Behavior Therapy Associates at New Brunswick Middle School, 1125 Livingston Ave.
  • 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. May 30, "Reducing the stigma of mental illness," presented by the National Alliance on Mental Illness at Roosevelt School, 83 Livingston Ave.
  • 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. May 31, "How to advocate for your child in the schools," presented by Behavior Therapy Associates at New Brunswick Middle School, 1125 Livingston Ave.
  • 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. June 6, "Truth and myths about DYFS," presented by the Middlesex County Division of Youth and Family Services at Lord Stirling School, 101 Redmond St.
