State Theatre New Jersey Announces 2017-2018 Season
State Theatre New Jersey unveiled its 2017-2018 Season, The Power of Live Performance
New Brunswick, NJ—State Theatre New Jersey unveiled its 2017-2018 Season, a diverse line-up of events which builds upon the theater’s mission to enrich the lives of people of all ages and backgrounds through the power of live performance. The 2017-2018 Season includes seven Broadway national tours, three internationally acclaimed orchestras, top-notch comedy, world-class dance, amazing concerts, engaging family programs, and much more.
“We are very excited about our 2017-18 Season,” said Tom Carto, State Theatre New Jersey President & CEO. “We have so many great international acts, from Festival of South African Dance; to the Japanese drum group, TAO; to Tango Buenos Aires and Sweden's Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra. It is our goal to encourage members of our community to have a life-long association with the performing arts and so we work on diverse programs and events that foster that relationship. Whether we are creating new programs like our Pride Nights at The State, hosting annual events like Family Day on President's Day, or our Veterans ticket program, we have something for everyone.”
A major part of the State Theatre’s 2017-18 Season is the Broadway Series. On October 13, State Theatre kicks off the series with the New Jersey premiere of the Tony®, Grammy®, and Olivier Award®-winning musical Jersey Boys. The other shows in the Broadway Series include Motown the Musical on March 23-25; Cinderella featuring the music of Rogers and Hammerstein on February 9-10; the musical comedy, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder on April 6-7; and Cabaret on May 18-19, based on Roundabout Theatre Company’s Tony Award®-winning production. Additional Broadway shows include the family musicals, The Sound of Music and on December 22-24 and The Wizard of Oz on May 4-5.

“We are proud to present the New Jersey premiere of the Tony® Award-winning musical Jersey Boys,” said Brian O’Boyle, State Theatre New Jersey Vice President of Programming & Executive Producer. “When we saw that Jersey Boys was touring next year we approached the producers about a New Jersey premiere at State Theatre and now it is the opening show for our big 2017-18 Broadway Season, and we couldn’t be more thrilled.”
This year’s orchestra series features three stellar groups. On November 12, Conductor Pavel Kogan and the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra perform a program Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, and Scryabin. Following Moscow on February 11 is one of Sweden’s oldest orchestras, the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra featuring piano soloist, Gunilla Süssmann. Rounding out the series is the Staastkapelle Weimar in their first North American tour on March 4.

Three of comedy’s best have been added for the 2017-18 Season and they are SNL and 30 Rock alum, Tracy Morgan on September 30 and a fantastic double bill of Brad Garrett and Rita Rudner on October 29.
New variety programs that make their State Theatre debut this season include Brain Candy Live! Starring Adam Savage and Michael Stevens on November 15.
