3 Families Displaced After New Milford Fire [Video]

Firefighters also helped extinguish a fire at a Bergenfield home this weekend.

NEW MILFORD, NJ — Three families were displaced Saturday after a four-alarm fire ripped through a townhouse.

The fire at the Canterbury Village home started on the deck and spread to the building, borough authorities said.

All of the borough emergency departments and the Department of Public Works responded to the scene and assisted the families following the blaze.

The American Red Cross went to the scene and helped one family who had no place to go.

"By the end of the day, all first responders went home to their families," the New Milford Office of Emergency Management stated. "Our best thoughts go out to the displaced families and hope their lives return to normal in the near future."

Firefighters also helped extinguish a Bergenfield house fire Saturday night. Firefighters responded to the North Prospect Avenue blaze at about 8:20 p.m. Firefighters deployed ladders, vented smoke out of windows, and assisted Bergenfield firefighters until about 10:45 p.m., authorities said.
