This year there are three candidates running unopposed for the New Milford Board of Education.
New Milford Patch asked the candidates to respond to a brief survey about who they are, what they think is important to New Milford schools and why they are running for office.
Today's feature is on Dan Conner, who is currently serving on the NMBOE and is the board president.

Age: 46

Occupation: Carpenter/ home remodeling contractor
Family: Married with 3 children
Bio: I have lived in New Milford for the last 24 years. I have been a volunteer in New Milford in the following capacities; Treasurer of the BF Gibbs PTO, Treasurer of the New Milford Little League, Numerous construction projects performed on the Little League fields and buildings, Cub master for Troop 78 Cub Scout Pack, Treasurer of the New Milford Athletic Boosters, Elected to the Board of Education in 2002, Elected as Board president for the last 6 years. I am also a volunteer blood platelet donor with over 135 lifetime donations.
Question 1: What skills would you (or do you) bring to the job of being a Board of Education trustee?
I am a good listener and an honest person who listens to all the facts before making an educated decision
Question 2: Why are you running for this position?
I feel as though the New Milford School District is finally back on the right track toward success and I want to make sure that the forward progress we have made continues for all the children of New Milford.
Question 3: What are your greatest accomplishments on the Board of Education?
Turning a district that was fractured and losing morale back into a district that has a great sense of pride and is ready to educate our children to be 21st Century learners
Question 4: What do you hope to work on during this term?
I would like to see even more progress toward integrating best learning practices in the class rooms and to solidify the positive feelings about New Milford Schools amongst the community, the students and the staff
Question 5: What do you believe is the biggest issue currently facing the New Milford School District?
Doing more with less money.
