Fix Parents and Children Will Follow! Saving The Nation's Schools.
The problem with education is with the parents raising the children going to our schools. Parental acceptance of mediocrity promotes children to fail. Want to fix education, parents must change!
At a time of balancing budgets and lowering deficits, this government wants to throw more money at education! Money, incidentally, it does not have. In a stunning move, the president promised to fix the nation’s schools.
Unfortunately, problems with education do not lie within the walls of PS 42 or with the teachers, unable to ignite the disengaged kids sitting before them. A lack of state-of -the art computer rooms, high- tech foreign language laboratories, Two-In-One Boards, one-on- one instruction or low teacher salaries are not to blame either.

Too Many Young Children SufferFrom B.R.A.T. Syndrome
Young children swing between over-stimulated and exhausted. By first grade, kids have Iphones. They text, email, play games, Google information, and of course, make a phone call. School cannot compete; by comparison to their world, young children are bored by school.

Children are exhausted from a full day in school and then four more hours in after-care. Children who cannot pay attention to a one- dimensional teacher, in a multiplex world, are labeled ADD or ADHD. Over- stimulated, over- indulged, and over-tired—they suffer from BR.A.T Syndrome!
Older students are equally distracted. Although it is against school policy to carry a
phone to class, students do it anyway. They split open the pocket on the front
of their hoodies so they can see the small screen, put the phone under the
desk, and text away!

They take a bathroom break and text someone in another room.Should
all distractions fail, TV, Netflix, computer games, IM’ing, Face Book, Twitter,
IPod’s, and Tweets reduce boredom. To keep the drama alive, Cyber bullying and Truth Pages exist. Reminiscent of the TV generation, students do not read. Life outside the classroom is multi-colored, three dimensional, larger than life. School is in black and white.
Today, schools must teach special classes on anti-bullying, stealing, hurtful
language, cursing, and friendship because parents do not deal with this at
home. Students arrive at PS 42 without any impulse control or understanding
that there are consequences for their actions. Parents, all too often, do not
have the time or energy left at the end of their day to read to their child or
help with homework.
Parents Need To Pay Attention.
The antics of Lady GaGa and Lindsay Lohan captivate young children. Most pre-teens love Justin Bieber. For his birthday, teens sent more than one million dollars
in donations to his favorite charity. Where did they get the money? How did
they know how to donate?
Parental Pinocchios
Parents have turned into Pinocchio’s. Children observe their parents lie to their spouse, the IRS, the cop who issues a speeding ticket. Parents lie to the school – kids should not have to face consequences. Parents teach children that teachers are always wrong. Parents whine, threaten, bully, and defame
any educator who points out a fault in their child.
“I know my child, Teacher Smith, Johnny never lied to me.” They believe it. It is easy and expedient. However, of sixty students in an eighth grade class, all
admitted to having lied to their parents at least once.
We are a nation of liars: members of our government, corporations, religious,
police-- all have been prosecuted for lying. Few exceptions. Outside a Himalayan Monastery, where would you find honest people?
Today, teachers deal with students who are less motivated, more distracted, less
curious and more easily frustrated than children of even twenty years ago. Test
scores have plummeted, the need for remediation has surged and in its wake are
increased instances of bullying, gang activity, violence, mean spiritedness,
and dishonesty.
Being successful in school requires dedication, discipline, a distraction-free
environment, and acceptance of delayed gratification to accomplish real goals. Children are taught these skills at a young age.
Government Money, Alone, Cannot Instill Family Values
No government money in this world will compensate for a drug related sinking gene pool; parents refusing to take action with a troubled child; or administrators
who weaken at the slightest pressure from the community.
It is not about schools!
What should the government do for our children? Ideally, put two parents in every
home; create jobs for anyone who wants to work. Ask Hollywood to tone down the
films they produce and parents to monitor what their children do watch. Do away
with accessible porn! Eliminate spousal abuse and domestic violence. Stop guns from getting into the hands of children. Remediate the need for gangs. Tear down ghettos. Keep drugs out of this country.
Encourage society to return to values and morals. Support life with some religious
foundation; embrace something larger than ourselves. Reign in the ACLU. Ostracize radical extremists. Expose political correctness for the ethnic tantrum that it is. And, Ladies and Gentlemen of the Government, lead by example.
Students arriving at school ready to learn, respecting honesty, civility and a sense of fair play, are taught those standards at home. Take these ideals to school and
it will spill over into relationships with peers and teachers. This will fix
our schools.
