Cupcakes for a Cause Raises Over $1,000 at Gibbs

Relay for Life benefitted from sales at both Gibbs and Berkley Schools

Happiness is eating a cupcake and knowing that you contributed to a wonderful cause like Relay for Life!   On Friday, March 25,  it was the First Annual “Cupcake For A Cause” involving  Gibbs school and Berkeley school with all proceeds going to fight cancer.

The event organizer, Danielle Petrolia, got the word out that she wanted to run a cupcake sale.   Amy Malone, who is the cupcake sale expert at Gibbs School, then went out to all her bakers asking them to advise on just how many cupcakes they were going to make.  Amazingly, the total number of cupcakes that were baked came to over 900!!

On the 25th, cupcakes were dropped off and volunteers began to arrive at 2:30 p.m. to start setting up.  The front entrance was decorated with purple balloons and purple tablecloths were placed on all the tables to show our true “Let’s Fight Cancer” colors.  At 3:10 p.m., the end of the day bell rang and out ran the kids to find cupcake stations set up around the building all ready for them to buy a cupcake for $1.

Cupcakes were flying off the tables and in about 25 minutes 800 cupcakes had been sold.  The 100 or so that remained were going to be sold the next school day.  Berkeley also had left over cupcakes and agreed to do the same thing.  When all was said and done, Gibbs School sold $1,018.50 worth of cupcakes and Berkeley sold $662.50 worth of cupcakes making the grand total, drum roll please--$1,680.50 all for this great cause.

A huge thank you needs goes out to all the parents and children that helped make the day possible at both schools.  None of this could have been done without them.   The New Milford Relay for Life is scheduled to take place May 20 – 21 at Gibbs School.  If you have not already joined a team or donated to a team that is already set up, please log on to the website for New Milford and do your best to contribute to fight this awful disease.   Together New Milford can make a difference!
