Elementary School Summer Work Due Date Extended
Change made to help families affected by Hurricane Irene

Berkley and Gibbs elementary schools postponed the due date for required summer work from Sept. 14 to Sept. 21.
The principals of both schools, Pat Aufiero and Scott Davies encouraged families to hand the work in on time if they are able to do so, but they added the extension to assist families impacted by Hurricane Irene.
Summer assignments were required for students in grades K through 12. The elementary schools decided to extend their due date after some families inquired and expressed concern after the hurricane. Some are displaced from their homes or had completed work that was damaged and lost.

"We appreciate the efforts of those families who can maintain the original due date so that student work can be displayed for Back to School Night,” wrote Aufiero in an email to Berkley parents. “Any family who is still displaced from their home should notify their child's teacher in writing regarding the summer project upon their return to school.”
