Former NMHS Swimmer Has Continued Success Through College

Bryon Kallert excelled at Boston University

Bryon Kallert enjoyed much success on the New Milford High School/River Dell Co-op swim team and he continued that success for four years at Boston University.

At New Milford High School, Kallert broke the 100 yard backstroke and butterfly records for Bergen County, along with being named Bergen County Swimmer of the Year after his junior year. The team won a few league championships during his time as well. The success and honors did not stop in college.

Kallert currently holds the BU records for the 100 and 200 yard backstroke and was a member of the record-breaking 200 and 400 yard medley relay teams as well as the 800 yard freestyle relay team.

The records are also the America East records, which is the conference that BU competes in. Kallert ended his career in Boston by receiving the E. Ray Speare Award, which is given every year to a senior at BU who is picked as the top male student-athlete, which combines academic and athletic success.

Kallert’s time at New Milford was enjoyable and helped prepare him for the future.

“Swimming on the NMHS/Riverdell Co-op was a lot of fun," said Kallert. "I was able to compete at more of a team level, which is very different than club swimming. I made many friendships with fellow swimming and my coaches, some who I still keep in contact with and see every once in a while.”

Kallert’s amazing accomplishments also come with some pain in his shoulders at times.

“Yes, I've had tendonitis is my shoulders since I was eight, so I've dealt with that my whole swimming career," said Kallert. "I would go in about 45 minutes early almost every day before practice and do rehab on my shoulders so I could keep them strong and get through practices. At times it would get so inflamed that it would hurt to lift my arm or do a random task.  When this would happen the only choice I had was rest until I was allowed to swim again.”

Now that graduation has arrived for Kallert, he is currently a swim coach in the Boston area and will be taking the CPA exam, along with starting a full time auditing position for Ernst & Young in September.
