Gibbs PTO Sponsors Annual Plant Sale

The sale was held the Friday before Mothers Day

Once again at Gibbs school, the PTO sponsored the annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale on Friday, May 6.  The weather was so absolutely perfect for this fun day for the students to be able to come out and purchase plants for their moms and anyone else special in their lives.

Two weeks prior to the sale, the PTO sent out pre-order voucher forms for parents to be able to purchase either hanging impatiens plants or flats of impatiens, marigolds, coleus, begonias, petunias and mixed flowers.  Both hanging plants and flats were offered at $12 each and would be available for pickup at Perrone’s Farm.

On the actual day of the sale, Perrone’s dropped off the plants early in the morning and they did such a great job in sending such a beautiful selection for our kids to choose from.  There were 4 ½” pots available of both impatiens and geraniums in a wide variety of colors for the kids to purchase on their own for $3 a plant.

Each grade took turns coming down to the plant sale, which the PTO was very happy to be able to set up outside the building by the media center.  The flowers outside the school really made it look like spring had sprung and it gave the feeling that the kids were picking flowers at a farm rather than the front of their school.

There were many parent volunteers that also were there that day helping the children pick out their plants for that special someone.

Even though this is a PTO-sponsored event, it technically is not a fundraiser and more of a service for the kids.  These types of services are one of the reasons why I signed on to the Executive Board two years ago.  It truly makes it worthwhile to see how excited the kids get and how thankful they really are for all that you do.

A big thank you goes out to Perrone’s Farm and to all our parent volunteers for making this another successful plant sale for the Gibbs PTO.   Here’s to hoping that all our moms out there had a wonderful Mother’s Day!
