Man Threatened To Blow Up Bergen Elementary School: Police

Bergenfield man allegedly walked up to a teacher and said he wanted to "blow up the school," police said.

A Bergenfield man was arrested after he told a teacher he wanted to "blow up" a Bergen County elementary school Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Bergenfield police officers responded to Lincoln Elementary School shortly before 9 a.m. after a school employee reported that a Hispanic man walked up to a teacher in the parking lot and said he wanted to "blow up the school," said Capt. Mustafa Rabboh.

The man then left the area on foot, police said.

As a precaution, all schools were placed on lockdown and Officer Daynel Ozorio found the man, Edgar Perez, 48, on New Bridge Road, Rabboh said.

Police searched at and near the school and did not find any suspicious, Rabboh said. Police also searched Perez's residence after his mother gave them permission to, the captain said.

Perez was charged with making terroristic threats and disorderly conduct, police said. His bail was set at $20,000 with no 10 percent option.
