National Junior Honor Society Welcomes New Members
DEO Middle School inducted 25 new members to the Therese M. Martin Chapter of the National Honor Society
David E. Owens Middle School inducted twenty-five students into the Therese M. Martin chapter of the National Junior Honor Society on May 25.
The evening began with the school orchestra, under the direction of teacher Julia Berenshtein, playing while students entered the room each carrying a single white rose.
Principal Whitney Perro welcomed everyone in attendance and spoke about change, which was a theme at DEO Middle School this year.

Danielle Shanley, director of curriculum and instruction for the New Milford School District, spoke about the character traits of honor society members.
Following Shanley's remarks, a candle-lighting ceremony was conducted by current NJHS members. Members lit candles in honor of admirable traits honor students possess including scholarship, service, citizenship, character and leadership.

The 25 students who were being inducted into the society recited the National Junior Honor Society pledge and received their membership pins and certificates.
Caitlyn Carroll, NJHS advisor for DEO Middle School, shared closing remarks before the newly inducted members processed out.
"I am very proud of the accomplishments of these young students and look forward to all of them upholding the pledge and being fine representatives of the honor society in the upcoming school year," said Perro.
