New Milford Man Threatened To Shoot Up NYFD: Police
The 63-year-old man threatened to bring an assault rifle to a New York City Fire Department building and open fire, police said.
NEW MILFORD, NJ — A SWAT team responded to a borough man's house after he threatened to open fire at a New York City Fire Department location Wednesday, police said.
New Milford police received a call just before 4 p.m.. from a division of the New York City Fire Department saying that a 63-year-old man threatened to bring an assault rifle to their building and open fire, said Detective Lt. Kevin Van Saders.
Police went to the man's Brookchester apartment and surrounded the building; the Bergen County SWAT team and members of the sheriff's department also went to the apartment, Van Saders said.

A SWAT team negotiator spoke with the man on the phone and convinced him to leave his apartment and surrender to authorities, Van Saders said.
The man was taken to New Bridge Landing Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation. Authorities searched the apartment and no assault rifles were found, Van Saders said.

No criminal chargers were filed against the man.
The area around the man's apartment was shut down for about two hours, Van Saders said.
