Shop Rite has really screwed the residents now. After obtaining approval from the Zoning Board years ago to re-build their dilapidated and deteriorated supermarket in its current location they procrastinated, waiting for a better deal, perhaps knowing the UW property would come on the market. They waited, allowing the store to literally develop dangerous holes in the floor, not in one spot but everywhere. Cardboard and duct tape covering the floor in every aisle, seniors having to navigate an obstacle course at every visit. Did Inserra make the necessary repairs? No. Still they waited. Did Inserra care that they were violating the health code for clean surfaces and floors, state building codes for a safe walking surface? Apparently Inserra didn't care enough to act to protect the shoppers and the seniors. Instead, they waited. Now the roof is overloaded with snow and the danger is worse than ever. But who suffers? The employees for sure. The homebound seniors who have no other place to shop now have NO place to shop. Why? It's not the snow . It's the lack of care that Inserra has exhibited to our residents and customers. They have taken the money, made their profits and like so many corporations, not re-invested a thin dime back into the store; no maintainance, zero. No rebuilding the store, no capital improvements.
Guess what would happen to your home or car if you didn't maintain them. It's no secret, they break down.
Shop Rite and Inserra have caused the situation that they are currently in; customers didn't cause it, seniors didn't cause it. If Inserra had re-constructed the store when they received the approval the roof wouldn't be collapsing and the store would not be forced to close, employees would not be without a job, seniors would not be stranded without a place to shop.
If I shed a tear, it is for seniors, not Inserra.
Talk about corporate responsibility to their community, with Inserra, it doesn't exist.
