Police: Men Stopped for Taking Metal, Bones Discovered
The Bergen County Medical Examiner's Officer determined that the bones belonged to an animal, possibly a deer according to the NMPD
NMPD Chief Frank Papapietro said officers stopped two men Wednesday afternoon who were taking metal fencing from the United Water Maintenance sheds on Madison Avenue. Their white van was parked across the street from the yard.
According to Papapietro, United Water stated the men did not have permission to take the metal.
Papapietro said the officers then checked the area for more metal possibly belonging to United Water and observed what appeared to be a femur bone and other bones on the property belonging to Bergen County known as Van Buskirk Island.

The Bergen County Police were notified, according to Papapietro, and responded along with the Medical Examiners Office.
Papapietro said the bones were taken to the medical examiner's office where they were determined to be animal bones, possibly that of a deer.

Bergen County Police are the lead agency since the bones were discovered on county parkland, according to the NMPD.
