Patrick Westervelt, a student at DEO Middle School, won the right to be "Principal of the Day" during a recent school day after raising money for New Milford's first ever Relay for Life Event. Westervelt's homeroom, led by teacher Daisy Ramos, raised a total of $200 for Relay for Life and were honored with a pizza party for their efforts. Westervelt sold $67 worth of  moons and suns which students were selling to raise money that went to the American Cancer Society. Westervelt worked with Principal Whitney Perro doing walk-throughs of all the classes, monitoring the halls, sending e-mails, running a fire drill and enjoying a pizza lunch.
