Service Learning Takes Root at DEOMS

Middle school students planted in honor of 9/11

Forget green thumbs, the eighth grade honors social studies students at DEOMS have red, white and blue thumbs.

On a recent saturday morning, the students planted flowers to honor the tenth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on America.  This service learning project was the idea of Ray Cottiers, social studies teacher, and Pete Galasso, honors social studies teacher.

The project was a way for students to remember the fallen and to give back on the National Day of Service and Remembrance.
