Sunday:

We learned that the Arizona shooting tragedy extended its reach into Bergen County with the news that Rutherford native Phyllis Schneck was one of the victims. Local congressmen reacted to the news that their fellow representative Gabrielle Giffords was severely injured in the attack.

Monday:

The council seat vacated by Mayor Ann Subrizi was filled by Celeste Scavetta after being selected by the council from a list of three proposed candidates. Scavetta will be sworn into office on Jan. 24.

Tuesday:

Borough residents were anticipating the latest snow which arrived in the late evening and led to the cancellation of school for Wednesday.

Wednesday:

Although the kids had off from school, many residents had to head to work since the actual snow amounts were far less than predicted and most roads were clear by the morning commute. Road conditions weren't great all over as evidenced by the River Edge police car that crashed into a wooden guard rail after sliding on the ice on New Bridge Road.

Thursday:

The mayor and council and New Milford Board of Education are at an impasse for how to fund the police officers who work in both the middle school and high school. Gov. Christie held a town hall meeting in Paramus where he announced his plan for an expansion of charter schools in the state. The New Milford Fire Department quickly put out a blaze on Princeton Street around 9 p.m.

Friday:

Our new dining column written by resident Donna Colucci debuted on Friday and was an instant smash hit with readers. Schools superintendent Michael Polizzi also responded to questions related to the timing of the calls made to notify parents of the snow day.

Saturday:

School superintendents in New Jersey announced they were suing the state over the proposed salary caps ordered by Gov. Christie and the state Department of Education. In lighter news, our new Saturday column "Future Friends" debuted highlighting local pets in need of a good home.
