Alert Resident Helps New Providence Police Nab 4 Men
The caller reported seeing several men going in and out of parked cars in New Providence.

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ — A phone call made by an alert resident to New Providence Police early Monday morning helped with the arrest of four men.
The caller reported around 4:19 a.m. seeing several men going in and out of parked cars in New Providence.
Officers David Rodriguez and Andrew Lynch responded to the area of Runnymede Parkway and when they arrived two vehicles fled.

One vehicle, which was stolen, crashed on Holmes Oval when the driver left it in neutral, police reported.
Rodriguez chased the second vehicle, which was also stolen, before the occupants bailed out on Diamond Hill Road near the entrance to Interstate 78 east, police reported.

Lloyd Gillespie, 19 of Newark and Rayquan Miles, 19 of Newark were both charged with eluding, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief. Gillespie and Miles were transferred to the Union County Jail pending court appearances.
Altameen Simpson, 19 of Newark was charged with joyriding and hindering apprehension. Simpson was released pending a mandatory court appearance. A 15-year-old juvenile was charged with joyriding.
"We want to thank the caller for alerting us as the events were unfolding. We ask that all citizens be diligent and report any and all suspicious activity to the New Providence Police," New Providence Police stated.
