Berkeley Heights Police Equipped With Body Cameras
The Berkeley Heights Police Department began full deployment of body-worn cameras (BWCs) this month.

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ — The Berkeley Heights Police Department began full deployment of body-worn cameras (BWCs) this month.
Two Axon Body from Axon/Taser International Inc. were purchased for the department.
The Berkeley Heights Police Department’s standard operating procedures – including when an officer turns a camera on or off – are based on standards set by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office. These standards apply to all New Jersey police agencies that use BWCs, according to Berkeley Heights police.

The cameras will be worn by uniformed officers to improve public safety, to enhance transparency, accountability and trust, to reduce complaints against officers, and to make prosecutions more efficient and effective.
The cameras,which are equipped with audio, will be mounted on the chest or shoulder area of an officer.
