"Fair" Turnout in Mountainside; High Taxes an Issue in Berkeley Heights

Mountainside mayor running unopposed; Patch exit poll has sports betting with a slight lead.

So far, it's neck and neck with Mountainside voters when it comes to the legalization of sports betting, at least in a Patch exit poll taken at Mountainside borough hall where there was a "fair" turnout, according to poll workers.

Meanwhile, residents at Mountainside Presbyterian Church are turning out in larger numbers, where at least one resident interviewed, Marie Woodruff, wants current mayor Paul Mirabelli to "be more like the old one and fight more." Mirabelli is running unopposed. She would also like to see taxes lowered as well.

Another resident and voter, Edward Mayor, said he's indifferent to the sports betting issue, and also feels that someone should have run against Mayor Mirabelli, saying he'd rather see "two parties run opposed."

Over in Berkeley Heights, Patch caught up with resident Albert Migliori, who said taxes are a major problem but believes voting is important. "The whole state of the country stinks. They don't need anymore money."

Karen Foote, who normally votes democrat, voted Republican this time. "The reason I came out to vote is because I don't think you can complain if you don't."
