Gov. Livingston head coach Terry Hanratty knew that his team had to slow down Cranford quarterback Reggie Green in order to have a chance for the upset Thursday night.
But like so many defenses before them, the Highlanders didn't have an answer, as Green rolled for touchdown scampers of 73 and 64 yards in first half before finding Ryan Williamson for a 44 yard touchdown strike in the second half to help the Cougars to a 44-20 victory at Memorial field.
The game was actually a nail-biter at halftime, with Cranford holding a 16-14 lead at the break. GL fought back from a 14-0 deficit when quarterback Rendyll Moorman delivered a 56 yard touchdown pass to Mike Murphy to make it 14-7. Andrew Romeo then smashed in from the three yards out to tie the game at 14, before GL gave up a safety just before halftime.
