Governor Livingston Bowlers Bested by Scotch Plains-Fanwood

Look to rebound against Dayton this afternoon

The Governor Livingston Highlanders' bowling squad met with a powerful Scotch Plains-Fanwood team on Wednesday, December 22 at Jersey Lanes in Linden.

The result was a loss to Scotch Plains-Fanwood in all three games by a Highlanders team that was without top bowler Jen Wageman and others due to illness.

"The only notable today is that everybody was sick," Highlanders head coach John Crane said following the series against Scotch Plains-Fanwood. "We didn't have one of our regular starting bowlers (Wageman), so we came and we bowled."

Shades of dominance were shown from some of the Raiders' top bowlers. Scotch Plains-Fanwood standout Mike Tufaro finished the second game of the set with a score of 254, missing strikes and having to settle for spares on only two of the game's ten frames.

Tufaro's performance in that game helped to negate Governor Livingston's best overall team performance of the day, as the Raiders took that game by a score of 964-700.

"Realistically, these are all very low scores," said Crane, whose team scored a 669 and 692 in the first and third games of the match, respectively. "The total wood (score) for all of the games is 2061, and we should really be around 2800. We're about 800 pins off of where we should be today."

The Highlanders will have to recover quickly, and will hope to have Wageman back for next week.

Going forward, Crane also has an idea of what his team will have to do to attain better levels of success throughout the rest of the season.

 "More practice," said Crane.

The Highlanders' match against Dayton High will once again take place at Jersey Lanes with a scheduled start time of 4 PM.
