PHOTOS: GLHS Varsity Tennis Off to Strong Start

Highlanders take 5-2 record into today's match against SP-F.

The Gov. Livingston girls' varsity tennis team is proving to be one of the top teams in Union County, starting the season with an impressive 5-2 record.

GL has served up victories over Kent Place, Oak Knoll, Bound Brook, Linden and Pascack Hills thus far, while losing to rival Westfield and state power Millburn in the final of the Millburn Challenge.

In their 5-0 wins over Bound Brook and Linden, the Lady Highlanders didn't lose a game, with Holly Ream impressing at first singles, while Alyssa Lopes held the fort at second singles. Laura Tierney won at second singles versus Linden.

Third singles and first doubles player Kat Tischenko continues to play well, while Kaitlyn Hoehn and Dani Rosenthal also play at first doubles, with Colleen Chou and Christina Lun at second doubles. Tori Cassano is also part of the doubles rotation.

Against Westfield, Tierney won at second singles with 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 victory. She also fought from behind in the Kent Place match to take a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win in the Highlanders 3-2 triumph.

Ream was an impressive 6-2, 6-2 winner at first singles in the Westfield match.

Gov. Livingston will travel to face Scotch Plains Tuesday afternoon, September 20 at 4 p.m.
