Serial Car Burglar Arrested For Crimes Across Union County, NJ

Jonathan Joseph, 24, of Irvington broke into more than 40 cars in Mountainside, Scotch Plains, Springfield, Clark, Woodbridge: Police.

MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ — A man was arrested by Mountainside Police in connection with several motor vehicle burglaries throughout Union County and across New Jersey.

Jonathan Joseph, 24, of Irvington was charged with burglary, theft and criminal attempt for the Mountainside burglaries on Sept. 8 and 11 due to help of the video surveillance and detective work by Mountainside Detectives Shaun Bendik and Stephen Devito.

Home surveillance cameras in numerous towns caught Joseph trying to door handles and then entering unlocked cars, Mountainside Police acting Chief and Lt. Joseph Giannuzzi reported.

Joseph was also linked to burglaries in Scotch Plains, Springfield, Clark and Woodbridge. He was also charged by several agencies in Morris, Bergen, Middlesex and Essex Counties, according to Giannuzzi.

Woodbridge Police arrested Joseph for committing more than 40 burglaries to motor vehicles over the course of several nights in the township.

He is being lodged at Middlesex County Jail.

"Once again the Mountainside Police Department would like to stress the need to lock your vehicles, remove all keys and remotes, do not leave valuables in them overnight, and never leave your vehicle unattended while running climate control features of the car," Giannuzzi said.
