1. Newton Free Family Fall Fun in October (tapinto.net) — Newton is lining up a full slate of free, family-friendly October fun, from the Fall Fest and Car Show on Spring Street to the costume-friendly Monster Dash 5K at Newton High School. Families can also plan ahead for the Oct. 31 Halloween Parade, with an afternoon lineup and march down Spring Street.
   

2. Millions Forgiven as Newton Tackles $31M in Water, Sewer Upgrades (tapinto.net) — Newton is moving ahead with about $31 million in water, sewer, and infrastructure upgrades, but expects roughly $24 million to be forgiven through state financing. Town officials say this high level of principal forgiveness will ease the burden on local taxpayers and ratepayers while replacing aging pump stations, meters, mains, and improving stormwater systems and Memory Park.
   

3. Free Baby Beginnings Fair at Project Self-Sufficiency (iheart.com) — Families in Newton can attend a free Baby Beginnings Fair today at Project Self-Sufficiency on Mill Street, starting at 1 p.m., with lunch, baby supplies, and door prizes included. Health experts will share practical tips on prenatal and postpartum dental care, cavity prevention, and early childhood development, while connecting parents with local resources for parenting support and low-cost family activities.
   

4. Newton field hockey snaps slide, picks up first win over Lenape Valley (nj.com subscription) — Newton High School's field hockey team finally broke its early-season skid with a 3–2 home win over Lenape Valley, giving local fans a much-needed boost. Becca O'Brien led the Braves with a goal and an assist, while strong defensive play and 14 saves from goalie Ava Kithcart helped Newton hold off a late push to secure its first victory.
   

5. Jefferson Township marching band competition draws 12 ensembles (townshipjournal.com subscription) — Newton's marching band joined 11 other high school ensembles at Jefferson Township High School's 17th annual marching band competition, now sanctioned by US Bands. Students showcased elaborate musical and visual performances as local educators and community leaders handed out awards, highlighting regional talent that included Newton alongside Sparta, Vernon, and other nearby schools.
