Home Improvement Show Renovating Bathroom Of Oakland Woman With ALS

Donna Myhre is confined to a wheelchair. She was diagnosed with the disease in 2012. 'George to the Rescue,' is conducting the renovations.

OAKLAND, NJ — A resident battling ALS is having her bathroom renovated by "George to the Rescue," a show on NBC.

Donna Myhre, a teacher in Montvale, has lived with the disease since 2012. She is beloved by her students and has kept a positive attitude throughout the four-year ordeal.

"She's an inspiring woman with an incredible family," said Andrew Bank, a producer on "George to the Rescue," a home improvement show. Host George Oliphant and his team of contractors and designers help deserving people with home remodels.

Oliphant heard about Myhre's situation while at an appearance at MetLife stadium. One of Myhre's friends gave Oliphant a letter explianing Myhre's situation and he decided to help. Oliphant surprised Myhre and her family and told them about the remodling in person.

'The goal is accessibility, safety, and comfort," Bank said. "We want to make the space help her be more independent and comfortable."

The episode featuring the renovation will air in late October, Bank said.
