The 56-year-old Lincoln Park man sustained a 'severe head injury' and died at the scene Tuesday afternoon, police said.

OAKLAND, NJ — A 56-year-old man died after he tripped, fell and was hit by a vehicle in a Spruce Street parking lot Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Police received a call at 4:13 p.m. that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle and suffered a "severe head injury," said Lt. Christian Eldridge. Police officers, members of the Oakland First Aid Squad and Valley Hospital paramedics responded to the scene.
First responders tried to save the Lincoln Park resident's life, but he died from his injuries, Eldridge said. A helicopter was requested to take the victim to the hospital, but it was subsequently cancelled, he said.

Authorities will continue to investigate the incident.
The man is the second person to die in Oakland in less than two weeks after being hit by a vehicle.
Nora Kohlash, 38, was walking with an acquaintance on the sidewalk in front of 18 Thackeray Road Feb. 21 when they were hit by a vehicle backing out of a driveway, police previously said. Kohlash was pronounced dead at the scene.
