The Oakland Diner was damaged by a fire Dec. 15. The community donated more than $16,000 to help the diner's out-of-work employees.

OAKLAND, N.J. — The Oakland Diner will reopen Wednesday, six weeks after it was damaged by a small fire and forced to close.

The fire reportedly started in the boiler room and quickly spread to the women's bathroom; there were customers in the diner when the fire occurred. No one was injured.

More than $16,000 was donated online to help diner employees since the closing. Many of the workers at the diner are single mothers.
