Water is Safe to Drink, Say Borough Officials
Water is safe, but trick-or-treating got pushed back to next week, Mayor Linda Schwager reports.
The water in Oakland is safe to drink, but there'll be no trick-or-treating today, according to an Hurricane Sandy storm update from the borough.
In a public notice issued Wednesday, Mayor Linda Schwager and the Borough Council reported, “Please be advised that our water is safe to drink.”
due to dangerous conditions from downed trees and power lines still present in the area.

Other updates:
- Schools are closed Thursday.
- The library is open and available for charging mobile devices and Wi-Fi use.
- The county shelter is closed, but you are seeking shelter, call 201-337-8111 (ext. 201) and provide your contact info. The alternative phone number is 201-337-6171.
- The power is expected to be out in many places for an extended period of time as Rockland Electric works with the borough on restoring electricity.
- No permit is needed to removed downed trees on private land.
- The deadline for fourth-quarter taxes has been extended to Nov. 13.
- The borough website is back up and being updated with info.
- Ponds Church is open, and OLPH will open Thursday, offering space for children activities.
- All Oakland Recreation activities are cancelled. The scheduled Flu Clinic (Thursday) and Rabies Clinic (Saturday) are postponed.
